History
Michael and David met at secondary school and have been making music together in various guises for over 20 years. They met Ben a few years later and John relatively recently. Some of the music that ended up on Everything Beautiful In Time was written over ten years ago, whilst Michael was at university, and has been looking for an outlet ever since. In 2015 Michael decided to record a progressive rock album all by himself under the name “I Am The Manic Whale.” After completing the first song it became apparent that he would need some help and so called on the other guys to make guest appearances, which gradually evolved into playing the whole album. Rob Aubrey was persuaded to take on the mixing of the album. Everything Beautiful In Time was released in December 2015.
After a successful pledge campaign, they were able to release a second album, Gathering the Waters, in October 2017.
Work on their third album is well underway.
The band have undertaken a number of live performances and enjoy immensely interacting with a live audience.
New Forms of Life, I am the Manic Whale's first live album, will be released in February 2019. A live DVD release will follow late in 2019.
Music
All our albums are unashamedly progressive rock. The band is inspired by many of the great progressive artists (Neal Morse, Genesis, the Flower Kings and Big Big Train) but hopefully is also able to bring something new to the table as well.
